"Music has always played a very important part since sound came into the cartoon."-Walt Disney

Walt Disney made a huge impact on music. It might not seem like a big deal now but any kind of sound in a motion picture was unheard of before the late 1920s. When a way to incorporate sound in with a motion picture was finally discovered, Walt Disney was one of the first to try it out. With Steamboat Willie to The Skeleton Dance, the audience was hooked.
To the right is a short clip of Walt Disney's famous Steam Boat Willie animation. Steam Boat Willie was Disney's "first Mickey Mouse short" and "became the first animated feature that was released to the general public to incorporate sound" (milojthatch, "The Genesis of Disney Music: 1920-1950"). |

Walt Disney's designed a film that combined both animation and classical music, called Fantasia. The first premiere of the movie was a disaster, no one understood Disney's new design, they wanted another one of his stories. It wasn't until three years after his death (1969) that appreciation for the film was achieved (milojthatch, "The Genesis of Disney Music: 1920-1950"). To the left is the original 1940 trailer for Fantasia. |

To the left is a video of some popular songs from Disney movies that you might be familiar with. Mulan - I'll make a man out of you Hercules - Zero to hero Aladdin - Never had a friend like me |
